The color of a gemstone can be described in many different ways. There is no official color grading system that is used as there is with Diamond. However, The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) created a color wheel (below) that many gemologists use as a guide in describing a gemstone’s color. Our gemologists at Paraiba International use the GIA’s color wheel, but also add our own color descriptions when the GIA’s color wheel description is not sufficient enough. We add words such as “intense”, “vivid”, “deep” and many other words to give you the full scope of a gemstone’s color.
