Yellow Beryl is part of the largest gemstone family, the beryl family. The beryl family is also called "the mother of all gemstones." This particular family of gemstone is very popular because of the offered brilliant colors, its 8.0 hardness on the Mohs scale, and high brilliance. They are definitely considered the best for gemstone jewelry. The yellow beryl has hexagonal crystals and vertical striated surfaces which are found in large deposit in South America, and also West and Central Africa. These can also be found in the United States, Ukraine, Russia and Madagascar.

Cousin of the aquamarine, yellow beryl encompasses all of the same qualities. Its hues range from a weak sort of lemon like yellow to a warm golden hue. Another name for this gem is Heliodor, and its Sun Sign is Leo. The word Heliodor is of Greek descent and means sun and gift because of the color.

Yellow beryl does contain some traces of iron. Iron is the reason why minerals that contain uranium and are otherwise colorless, have an intense yellow color to it. Any gemstone that contains uranium will also have some radioactive qualities about it. Gemstone cutters can make many different shapes with yellow beryl because of its strength and many people wear yellow beryl because it has been said to help one communicate more effectively.

Along with great communication qualities, yellow beryl also increases ones compassion and sympathy towards the next person, and is said to help stabilize the heart beat. It is involved in treatments such as for the liver, spleen, pancreas, small intestines and stomach. It is also considered a hope stone that can alleviate any irritability and nervousness. It will supposedly bring honesty out of others and help one regain what they have once lost in terms of money. Yellow beryl is much more affordable than any other beryl gem, especially aquamarine.
