Rubellite is not simply a red tourmaline. Although red tourmalines can look perfectly ruby-red, the criterion for a tourmaline to be a Rubellite is its constant color, regardless of light/artificial light conditions. Where some pink and red tourmalines will change their color and intensity when exposed to artificial light, Rubellites maintain their bold ruby red color and brilliant intensity.
